Student Organization Coaching
School can be a rewarding and exciting time of learning and growth for a student. However, some students find school to be frustrating, disappointing and sometimes not very successful due to a lack of organizational skills. Students who lack organizational skills face academic and emotional challenges that only increase with every year they advance in school.
Parents: Does this sound familiar to you?
- Homework assignments missing or not turned in
- The unused planner
- The forgotten school project
- The exploding backpack with months of school work still inside
- Unprepared for tests or exam because they “forgot” about the test
- Permission slips or report cards that never quite make it home
The disorganized student is often noticed early in elementary grades but is often overlooked as just needing to mature. When these students transition to middle school, the disorganization and the problems that follow become very noticeable and often set the stage for the student to begin to dislike school. The transition to high school often can spell disaster for these students who feel lost and unprepared and believe that they cannot be successful in school. At this point, the disorganized student is at risk for dropping out of school and facing a future that no one in the family expected.
This picture does not have to happen to your child. Michelle will work with your son or daughter to identify their unique strengths and how to work with her/him to develop an organizational system that they will be capable of sticking with. I will offer a range of practical solutions for everyday organizational problems, including strategies for getting the best out of the school backpack, hallway locker, notebooks, and the desk at home.
Michelle’s many years in teaching, a middle and high school principal and mother of child with learning deficits allows her the privilege of understanding how to coach your child from disorganized and frustrated student to organized happy and successful student.
